This summer, Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. is encouraging Florida chefs to participate in the second annual Blended Burger Project with the opportunity to win a trip to cook at the historic Beard House in New York City this fall. According to the James Beard Foundation, The Blended Burger Project attempts to enhance burgers by blending ground meat with chopped mushrooms, producing an extraordinarily tasty patty that’s healthier for consumers and more sustainable for the planet.
Chefs are asked to create their own take on the blended burger, and then menu their dish from Memorial Day through July 31, 2016. Contest rules require chefs to sign up online before developing their masterpiece. Burgers must contain at least 25% chopped and fresh cultivated mushrooms, and Fresh From Florida hopes chefs will utilize Florida-grown mushrooms, which are available year-round, in their burgers. A high-res photo of the dish should be sent to the foundation to be included in the online voting gallery.
Be sure to promote the contest and generate “buzz” around your blended burger on social media. Ask your guests to post your blended burger on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #BlendedBurgerProject and #FreshFromFlorida. Direct them to vote for your burger at www.jamesbeard.org/blendedburgerproject/vote. We wish all chefs good luck and happy cooking, and for more information on the contest, visit www.jamesbeard.org/blendedburgerproject.
